We are beyond excited to proclaim the Jury President of the International Jury at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, Mr. M. Night Shyamalan!
The successful American immigrant screenwriter, director and producer originally from South Asia has been captivating audiences worldwide with his films over the past three decades. His widely recognised films such as “The Sixth Sense” (1999), which received no less than six Academy Award nominations, or “Split” (2017) usually focus on thrillers that play with genre conventions. Shyamalan’s use of supernatural elements often contrasts or combines with philosophical reflections of our own existence.
“Being asked to be a part of Berlinale is deeply meaningful to me. It represents the highest imprimatur for a filmmaker. Being able to support and celebrate the world’s very best talent in storytelling is a gift I happily accepted,” comments Mr. Shyamalan.
“I’m pleased and honoured that M. Night Shyamalan has accepted our invitation to serve as president of the Jury,” states the Berlinale’s Artistic Director Carlo Chatrian in return.
